BCN: from Sneyd Junction (SnJ), WS3 2LT to Pelsall Junction (PJ), WS3 5AD

This is the route that I took on Thursday April 18th 2019 when walking the BCN from Sneyd Junction (SnJ), WS3 2LT to Pelsall Junction (PJ), WS3 5AD. It is 11.1K long.

KML for the above route as a line
KML for the above route as a series of points

Here are some photos I took. If you want to see a photo in hi-res, click on it.

I start today at Sneyd Junction which is on the left in the above map. The map shows the W&E canal first goes SE. It goes SE to Birchills Junction, which is a junction with the Walsall Canal. Then it goes NE to Pelsall Junction. As you can see there are lot quicker ways of getting from Sneyd to Pelsall!

There's a vast area on the other side of the Canal that looks ripe for a housing development. I found a report on the web that says "Elkingtons acquired the site and established a copper refinery and brass stampings factory by 1954. Elkingtons were purchased by IMI who ceased operations in the 1980s and by 1992 the buildings ... are shown to have been removed." That's taken from this March 2017 report which says that metal contamination is present across the whole site and there is some hydrocarbon contamination - it also says that "in order to reduce risks to acceptable levels a solution is required that addresses contamination throughout the upper soils across the site".

This is Pelsall Works Bridge. The caption to a similar photo on geograph by Adrian Rothery says "Workers at the foundry would walk from their homes in Pelsall (on the right) to the foundry (on the left). The foundry would have covered most of the land from the junction bridge (just visible in the distance) back to this access bridge and well beyond. The foundry ceased trading in the 1890s and the land it once occupied is now the North Common."
