BCN: from Catshill Junction (CJ), WS8 7EQ to Daisy Bank (DB), WS5 3AR

This is the route that I took on Saturday April 20th 2019 when walking the BCN from Catshill Junction (CJ), WS8 7EQ to Daisy Bank (DB), WS5 3AR. It is 10.7K long.

I saw this fisherman yesterday at Brownhills. I show him the photo I took of him. He says he was lucky yesterday as he caught 16 fish. He says he fly fishes for rudd, and that not many do fly fishing along these canals.

In order to keep to the 473ft contour, the Daw End Canal is on an embankment with the land falling on both sides of the Canal. So it's a climb to get up and over the Canal at Black Cock Bridge

From the canal, you can access the Manor Arms, a pub in Daw End. The main room of the pub is a small room that has the pumps down one side of the room.

The whatpub web page says the pub is "a canalside pub thought to have been built around 1105 and to have held a licence to serve ale since 1248 making it one of the oldest pubs in the country - it still retains features like the exposed beams and there is an open fire in both bars - the beer pulls come straight out of the wall resulting in the pub being known locally as 'the pub with no bar'".

This is Longwood which is the junction of the Daw End Canal and Rushall Canal. The Pearson's guide says the Daw End Canal bears left to the "limestone workings at Hay Head". The Rushall Canal is the canal that goes straight on.
