from Farnley Tyas to Huddersfield

This is the route that I took on Thursday October 3rd 2019 when walking from Farnley Tyas to Huddersfield. It is 6.5K long.

Here are some photos I took. If you want to see a photo in hi-res, click on it.

Today's walk is from the village of Farnley Tyas back to my hotel in Huddersfield. Like yesterday, I'm making up my own route. Towards the end of the walk, I'll be walking through the suburbs of Huddersfield. I'm hoping that I've chosen a route that is scenic and doesn't involve too much tarmac.
I start at the Golden Cock in Farnley Tyas with St Lucius' Church in the background on the left.

My trip involves getting up close to Castle Hill and the Victoria Tower. Wikipedia says "The hilltop has been settled for at least 4,000 years. The scheduled monument comprises the remains of a late-Bronze Age or early Iron Age univallate hillfort with a single raised bank, a later Iron Age multivallate hillfort, a 12th-century motte and bailey castle and the site of a deserted medieval village. The grade II listed Victoria Tower on the summit of Castle Hill is by far the most conspicuous landmark in Huddersfield."

There is a stream that goes from right to left in the middle of this photo. The next 1K involves walking alongside this stream. I fail to notice that the public right of way is on the far side of the stream - there is a bridge on the right hand side of this photo to cross the stream. Instead I use the footpath through the woods that is on this side of the stream. Luckily the two footpaths go to the same place.

Later I see this sign alongside the path I was planning to take. It says that there's a "Riverside Way" to "Leeds Road (via the Stadium)". This is good news as my hotel is on Leeds Road near to the football stadium. I suspected from my map reading last night that there are footpaths alongside the river (that aren't public rights of way) that would be useful for me.
