From December 2019 for about 10 months, work is being done where the canal meets the A38. This web page says GCC are funding the "construction of two new bridges, a canal channel within the roundabout and a towpath under the bridges". Here's a video of some clone footage taken in July 2020. As you can see in the video, the "roundabout" only has 3 sides with traffic on it whilst a bridge is being constructed on the 4th side. That was back in July. That bridge is now open for traffic to go over it. Work is currently being done on the other bridge. So that side of the "roundabout" is now closed and traffic is using the other 3 sides including the new bridge. This photo shows the bridge that has been completed.

The next hurdle is the M5. Creating a new underpass for the canal under the M5 is not possible. So the canal is to be re-routed across a field to go alongside the River Frome that is in this photo. The rerouting is shown in black on this map. It is taken from these web pages.
