Calderdale Way: from West Vale to Ripponden

This is the route that I took on Monday September 20th 2021 when walking the Calderdale Way from West Vale to Ripponden. It is 8.7K long.

Here are some photos I took. If you want to see a photo in hi-res, click on it.

This is the first day of my holiday walking the Calderdale Way. It's going to be sunny all day which will put me in a good mood. I got off the bus at Stainland Road Sports Ground which is in West Vale - it's about 6M NW of Huddersfield. I've struggled to find details on the web of where the CDW starts, but some web pages say it's at Clay House and that's not far from here. According to the GPX file I'm using, the CDW leaves Stainland Road at this point.

In the vicinity of Clay House I see this sign. It's pointing roughly the way I've just come but it's pointing down a different path. Maybe I came the wrong way but I was following the route in the GPX file. Never mind!

At this point the CDW that's signed on the ground takes a shortcut to the route that's given in the GPX file. I use it as it uses a footpath through fields rather the route in the GPX file as that's longer and mainly on road.

This is roughly at the start of a long stretch on paths through Norland Moor. It's at the highest point of today's route. And I'm pleased I doing it on a day with 360 degrees of blue sky. I imagined that doing this stretch when it's wet would be unpleasant. BTW, the nice weather means I meet a lot of people walking across Norland Moor.
