Calderdale Way: from Blackshaw Head to Wadsworth

This is the route that I took on Friday September 24th 2021 when walking the Calderdale Way from Blackshaw Head to Wadsworth. It is 10.3K long.

	Day 5 of my holiday walking the Calderdale Way starts in Blackshaw Head. It's at 340m. 	When I got to this spot I saw the white acorn which surprised me. My guess was this is a crossing point with the Pennine Way but looking on the web I see that a white acorn is used for any national trail. However, I've just looked at an OS map and yes this is crossing of the Pennine Way. 	The CDW now goes through Slater Ing Wood, some woods to the West of Heptonstall. 	It's hard work scrambling across the boulders which are slippery. 	Although there's a signpost saying the public footpath goes left, I carry straight on because all the mapping I've got say there's a path through the woods. In the end I admit that the path I'm on is no longer near those on my online mapping. So I scramble like a goat through the wood up the side and eventually reach this spot. Is this the path? I think not and go higher and find... 	This is a lighting stand. Heptonstall is often used in films. At the moment various locations in Heptonstall are being used for "The Gallows Pole", a new BBC drama that is based on the novel of the same name by Benjamin Myers. The book describes the story of the rise and fall of David Hartley and the Cragg Vale Coiners. I learn all this from one of the many hands hanging around in Heptonstall waiting to be told to do something! He tells me that David Hartley is buried in the grounds of the Church of St Thomas a Becket and that people put coins on his grave. I go into a coffee shop to have a coffee and the only three customers are also film hands. The owner says its good for trade.
