Chesterfield Canal: from Staveley to Killamarsh

This is the route that I took on Monday March 11th 2019 when walking the Chesterfield Canal from Staveley to Killamarsh. It is 8.5K long.

The Canal has to cross the River Doe Lea but currently there's no aqueduct and so the "towpath" temporarily goes away from the Canal using a path that bears left at the wooden fence shown on the left.

Near to Huggester Farm, #mymap says the line of the restored canal is likely to be the East of the original line which was to the left of where I'm standing but it's not obvious why

To the West, the TransPennine Trail crosses a bridge - this disused railway line accompanies the Chesterfield Canal for the next few miles

The answer is that the T-junction is actually a staggered crossroads - so right and then left - to go along this footpath which is not so defined as the other two!

This signboard explains that when they restore the Canal they are planning to reroute it from its original line because of housing developments in Killamarsh - the new route takes the Canal North to Nethermoor Lake which is one of the lakes of the Rother Valley Country Park and then they will construct a canal on the NE side of the lake that goes Eastwards to rejoin the Canal - #mymap has two possibilities for the route down to the lake
