Chesterfield Canal: from Killamarsh to Kiveton

This is the route that I took on Wednesday March 13th 2019 when walking the Chesterfield Canal from Killamarsh to Kiveton. It is 6.6K long.

The second possibility for rerouting the Canal to Nethermoor Lake goes down here, going down three locks and then through a new tunnel under Sheffield Road

It's not very obvious as to which way the Canal went through the housing developments - I didn't see any signs for the Cuckoo Way and so I made up my own route which starts along this road ...

After the end of the houses, you can see where the Canal used to be - I think the plan is to restore the Canal to this point with a winding hole here - so this bit would be a cul-de-sac

This is roughly the point where it's proposed for the restored Canal to rejoin the original route - at the top of the photo there is an expanse of water - this is Nethermoor Lake - I think it's about 20m lower than where I am - and so the plan is to construct a flight of 6 locks or a boat lift or an inclined plane to get from the Lake up to the Canal

At this point the Canal entered a 2.633K tunnel called Norwood Tunnel - but #mymap says they plan only to restore the Eastern end of the tunnel and to replace the Western end by a canal on the surface with locks up to begin with and then locks down

The Cuckoo Way goes straight on at this point - here the proposed route of the Canal is several metres to the South (right) - in the next field there are some trees on the left.

That's the end of today's walking and so I go to the bus stop - I pass this sign for "Wales"! - there are a lot of weird place names near Worksop - I've seen Wales, Blyth, Wensleydale, Rhodesia! Before I knew about the local Wensleydale, I saw a bus to Wensleydale and thought that that was strange
