Here are some photos I took. If you want to see a photo in hi-res, click on it.

Today's walk starts from Clayworth Iron Bridge. Yesterday, I saw a lot of boats just before the bridge and today there are quite a few North of the bridge ... here are some of them ...

This is Taylor's Bridge - here the Canal would like to go NE (to the right) but it's too hilly that way and so it goes 1.5K to the West (left), then it goes North for about 0.5K (using a tunnel that is just 135m long) and finally it travels NE for 10K to the end of the Canal - the position of Taylor's Bridge and the devious route ahead are shown on this map with the route shown in blue

Immediately downstream of Shaw Lock there's Shaw Bridge - I use it to leave the Canal to get to the bus stop - as well as saying it's bridge "76" it has also a stone saying "W&GN 1830" - whilst I was out walking I guessed that the "W&GN" was the "Worksop and Gainsborough Navigation" but later after looking at the web I see no real mention of "W&GN" except it's mentioned in photo 1160 (which is dated 1973) on this web page but that is said to be at "Gringley Top Lock" which is the lock I saw before Shaw Lock - I'll return to Gringley Lock again today (Wednesday) to see if I missed it - it's puzzling as none of the web pages I read about the Chesterfield Canal refer to "W&GN" and why "1830" as the Canal was opened in 1777
