Walking the Holme Valley Circular Walk and the Meltham Way during January 2020

During this holiday I'm planning to walk the Holme Valley Circular Walk (HVCW) and the Meltham Way (MW). I'm staying overnight (in a hotel) in Huddersfield. Each day I'm taking buses/trains to where I finished walking the day before.

There's a description of the HVCW on the LDWA website. That web page says the HVCW is 36K/22.4M long. There's a description of the MW on the Walking Meltham website. That web page says the MW is 14K/8.75 long. That's a total of 50K/31.15M and my holiday is for 6 days and so that is an average of 8.3K/5.2M per day. However, it'll be more than that because I need to walk between a bus/train stop and the HVCW/MW.

To help me walk along the HVCW/MW, I obtained some mapping for the route of the HVCW from the LDWA website and some mapping for the route of the MW from that provided by Damian Scott on www.plotaroute.com. And, on my mobile phone, I used that data in my own mapping app (derived from BingMapsAndroidSDK). The app shows my current location against a detailed OS map. At the end of day 3 I wrecked my mobile phone (!) and so for the rest of the holiday I navigated using OS Explorer Map 288. The Google map below has the route of the HVCW and MW shown in blue. Below the map there are links to web pages that give more details about each day's walking. Each of these web pages has a map and some photos.

Here's a table summarising my holiday. The 3rd column of each row of the table has a link to a web page that give more details about that day's walking. Each of these web pages has a map and some photos. The 4th, 5th and 6th columns of each row of the table give the distances that I walked. These 3 columns have 2 figures: the second figure indicates how far I walked that day whereas the first indicates roughly how much of that was spent walking along the HVCW/MW. The second is bigger than the first partly because I need to walk between a bus/train stop and the HVCW/MW and partly because it includes bits where I fail to navigate properly and so go off route and have to return again. Sometimes this second figure is an underestimate as bizarrely its endpoint is based on the place where I took the last photo.
