Kirklees Way: from Birchencliffe to Cooper Bridge

This is the route that I took on Sunday December 15th 2019 when walking the Kirklees Way from Birchencliffe to Cooper Bridge.

I've decided to start my holiday walking the Kirklees Way in Birchencliffe which is a suburb of Huddersfield, a few miles NW of the city centre.

I meet this guy walking his dog - his dog is in this photo - he says he's done a day trip walking 25M of the KW starting from here - he says that there are a lot of golf courses!

The KW uses a footbridge to cross the Grimescar Dyke.

Looking back I see on the skyline the Tower at Castle Hill which is on the other side of Huddersfield.

Here's the first golf course - it's the Huddersfield Golf Club in Fixby Park. This one's easy to navigate as it's straight on through it - there are no turns.

This is a wood called Upper Fell Greave. Curiously, here the KW is along a path which I think isn't a public right of way.

I cross the A641 and go pass a Hospice and enter a wood called Lower Fell Greave. Not long after this photo was taken, the KW makes a left turn to go North - it's not obvious where this is - after backtracking I find a sort-of-path but I'm not convinced it's the KW but eventually near the North end of the end I see ...

I manage to go round this pond. Just after the pond, the route of the KW as waymarked on the ground differs from the route given on both the OS map and in my KML mapping.

The KW then goes along Lower Quarry Road (which is tarmac) - it crosses the single track railway line from Brighouse to Huddersfield.
