Here are some photos I took. If you want to see a photo in hi-res, click on it.

Today I'm starting just after bridge 72A which carries the Bolton Road, the A673 from Chorley to Bolton. It's about 1.7M South of Chorley.

Just after bridge 73 you are invited to have an ice cream. As it's 0915 I decline. The Pearson's Guide says they have "been pandering to sweet-toothed Chorleyians since 1892".

In Summer 1969, I worked for British Rail at its Research Centre in Derby. I became involved with the mathematics of pantographs. If a pantograph exerts too much force on the catenary, the catenary wears whereas if there's too little force, you get arcing. The mathematics involves a differential equation, and I was solving these using the FORTRAN programming language.

This story in a December 2018 issue of the Manchester Evening News says "The landmark building will close its doors in February 2019 to make way for the new Botany Bay Outlet Village. Bosses say it is simply not 'economically viable' to repair the crumbling site, which has been earmarked for redevelopment. The five-floor mill, which dates back to 1855, currently houses a number of stalls selling everything from clothes and gifts to furniture."
