The white haired guy facing this way handing out the jelly beans - the leader of the walking group - tells me that the railway was the Barnoldswick Railway. He then offers me a jelly bean! The Barnoldswick Railway ran from Earby (on the Colne to Skipton railway line) to a terminus at Barnoldswick. This Wikipedia page says it was a "1-mile-1,342-yard (2.836 km) long single track line was opened on 8 February 1871".

Thanks to the Pearson's Guide, I now know that the "RB" in jet engines such as the RB211 stands for "Rolls-Barnoldswick". It also says "Their Bankfield site borders the canal by bridge 154A. Formerly the works was used for weaving: hence the saw-tooth north-light roofing. The first fighter jet engines were developed here toward the end of the Second World War. Nowadays the much extended plant makes components for famous jet engines such as the RB211."
