Calder&Hebble: from Salterhebble to Cooper Bridge

This is the route that I took on Sunday July 28th 2019 when walking the Calder&Hebble from Salterhebble to Cooper Bridge. It is 12.2K long.

Here are some photos I took. If you want to see a photo in hi-res, click on it.

As the forecast was for heavy rain all day long for the Rochdale area and a lot drier in the East, today I chose to do what I was planning to do on the last day of walking, i.e., the section of the Calder&Hebble Canal from Salterhebble to Cooper Bridge.
So today's walk started at Salterhebble locks which are a few miles NW of Elland.

... the junction of that road with Gas Works Lane. There's nothing to say that the towpath (and Route 66) can be found by going down Gas Works Lane but the map in the Pearson's Guide tells me this is the way to go. Needless to say there are signs for Route 66 at other junctions down this lane.

You then use a bridge to cross the Canal. Just after the Bottom Lock in Bridghouse the Canal joins the River Calder. So this boat is on the combined river and canal. The route to rejoin the towpath then goes through roads through an industrial estate on the Southern side of the Canal.
