Rochdale/Calder&Hebble: from Mytholmroyd to Salterhebble

This is the route that I took on Thursday August 1st 2019 when walking the Rochdale/Calder&Hebble from Mytholmroyd to Salterhebble. It is 11.4K long.

Here are some photos I took. If you want to see a photo in hi-res, click on it.

Yesterday's walk ended at bridge 10 of the Rochdale Canal which is in Mytholmroyd. But, for some reason, I missed this milepost which is just before bridge 10. That tells me I've got 4 miles to go to the end of the Rochdale Canal and the start of the Calder&Hebble Canal.

But it's a different matter when the lock is viewed from the other direction, i.e., from the East. Pearson's Guide says it's an "intimidating nineteen feet tall". It also says it's "the combined depth of locks 3 and 4 [which were] merged when the canal was restored".

After crossing the main road in Sowerby Bridge ("Wharf Road") (and passing a Wetherspoons pub), I have a long chat with Neil, a volunteer with the Canal&River Trust. Here he is talking to two other passers-by. In our chat, I mention the towpath closure at Todmorden - he says that the C&R Trust has an app I can download to my phone that can show a map of the bit that is closed and it's superimposed on a Google Map and so it'll be easy to see how to walk around the closure - I need to get that
