Here are some photos I took. If you want to see a photo in hi-res, click on it.

It's not a great start as I can't get any details from Google Maps as to bus/train times because the mobile signal is very, very slow which I guess is because there are thousands of people in Wolverhampton for a football match. I then leave the hotel only to find I've not changed into my walking boots and my second attempt to leave gets me onto the bus to find that I've left my rucksack in the hotel. Eventually I set off. And today I'm walking a bit of the Dudley No.2 Canal. It's current stops at Hawne Basin. Google Maps has told me to get off the bus at Hereward Rise. I do this and climb Hereward Rise to reach a T-junction. This is where Chancel Way goes both left and right. Google Maps then tells me to go right to the end of Chancel Way which is where Hawne Basin is. However, when I get there, the gates are locked to the Basin. I speak to someone through the gates and he says you can't get to the towpath from here. He says I have to turn round and go to the other end of Chancel Way and the towpath will be on my right.

It's difficult to see through the bushes and trees but I think this grey fencing is where the Dudley No. 2 Canal currently ends. At this point, it used to go through a tunnel but the Pearson's Canal Companion explains that the Lapal Tunnel closed in 1917 - it used to go through the tunnel to Selly Oak to join the Worcester and Birmingham Canal.

I look at the Pearson's Canal Companion and it seems there is no towpath for the Dudley No. 2. Canal at this point. I'm on a footpath that has trees, bushes and grasses separating it from the Canal.

When the towpath starts, it's on the other side of the Canal. So I use a bridge to cross over and then see another boat coming towards me. It's pouring with rain!

This photo looks back at the other portal to Gosty Tunnel. There is no towpath through the tunnel. It's fairly straightforward finding the other portal - you just keep walking straight on which after a triangular cross roads takes you along Station Road - the Canal will eventually be on your right. Because, I hadn't done my homework, I in vain tried Chapel Close and then I went along Lansbury Road, asked some locals, went further along Lansbury Road and left into Granville Road and found it on my left. However, it's a lot simpler and shorter - you just stay on Station Road and it'll be on your right!

Shortly after the tunnel, there's a railway bridge taking the line from Cradley Heath to Birmingham. That's Station Road on the left.

This is Garratt's Lane. As it's been pouring with rain for all of today's walk, I'm abandoning it here. I'll reschedule the next two days to complete the Dudley No. 2 Canal and then do the Dudley No. 1 and the Stourbridge Canals.
