Dudley and Stourbridge: from Silver End to Stourport Junction

This is the route that I took on Tuesday September 18th 2018 when walking the Dudley and Stourbridge from Silver End to Stourport Junction. It is 14.9K long.

The bit from Stourbridge along the High Street back to the canal was on a bus.

That looks like a railway bridge ahead. The Pearson's Canal Companion says "Oxford, Worcester & Wolverhampton (GWR)", i.e., the same line as went over the Park Head Viaduct yesterday, and so I wasn't expecting any track ...

There's a T-junction ahead. It's Leys Junction. The Stourbridge Canal continues to the left and immediately there is a flight of 16 locks - the Stourbridge Locks. And the canal to the right takes you to Brockmoor Junction and it's not navigable soon after that.

Lock 7 with a side pound to the left. The Pearson's CAnal Companion says "The flight is characterised by reedy side ponds aiding and abetting water supply." The side ponds are very easy to see if you go to this area on Google Maps.

The Pearson's Canal Companion says "The massive Red House Cone (or kiln) dates from the end of the 18th Century". This is a telephoto shot of it as I haven't got to it yet.

This is Wordsley Junction. The Stourbridge Canal continues to Stourton Junction but to the left there's a cul-de-sac branch off to the town of Stourbridge. I decide to walk that next.

They tell me that the towpath ceases almost immediately as the moorings in Stourbridge are secured moorings surrounded by steel fences. I take this photo through the steel fence.
So I'm now in Stourbridge - I've now reached the end of the Stourbridge Arm. Rather than walking back the same way to Wordsley Junction, I've decided to take the bus. This will drop me off just before lock 13 of the Stourbridge Locks. Maybe this time I'll see some boats doing the locks. And ....

Beyond lock 4 is Stourton Junction - this is where the Stourbridge Canal meets the Staff and Worcs Canal which I walked last week. And that's the end of this trip. I've got about 40 minutes to wait until the bus back to Wolverhampton. But en-route to the bus stop I see the Peggy Ellen and help it down locks 3 and 4.
