Black Sheep Brewery Races

Details of running races (e.g., 5K, 10K, 10M and half marathon), both road races and multi-terrain, in North East England: Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire, ...  Generated on Mon 30 Nov at 18:41:56 GMT

The races

During April to September, eight separate races are held in towns and villages of North Yorkshire. They are called the "Black Sheep Brewery Races". In 2010, the proposed dates for the races are as follows:

Sun Apr 25th Fountains 10K
Sun May 9th Ripon 10M
Sun May 30th Melmerby 10K
Sat Jun 5th Kirkby Malzeard 10K
Sun Jun 27th Rainton 10K
Sun Jul 4th Burn Valley Run (half marathon)
Sun Jul 18th Burton Leonard 10K
Sun Sep 12th Wetherby Run (10K)
As in 2009, the 2010 Burn Valley Run will be held on a Sunday rather than on a Saturday (which is when it was held in the years before 2009).

You will be able to enter one or more of these races by getting an entry form (from the organisers of the race) and sending it off in the usual way. In previous years, some of the races insisted that you enter by post, i.e., entry on the day was not allowed.

There are links to the entry forms for each race at the Ripon Runners web site and at www.northeastraces.com. And, after each race, the Ripon Runners web site will probably have a link to a web page containing the results.

A separate competition

If you are thinking of entering at least five of these races, you may also want to enter a separate competition called the "Black Sheep Brewery Race Series" (BSBRS). Official information about the BSBRS is at www.blacksheepraceseries.co.uk

Entry into the BSBRS is 10 pounds. Here is a link to the entry form for the BSBRS.

That web site says:

  • "You must complete 4 of the 6 10K races plus one of the longer runs, either the 10 mile or the 1/2 marathon."
  • "We will be operating a points system this year; points are awarded to the top 15 runners in each age group."

Other information including details of the prizes is given at: www.blacksheepraceseries.co.uk

Just to repeat what is said above: if you choose to enter the BSBRS (paying the 10 pounds), you will also, separately, have to enter each race and pay the fee for each race. The closing date for entry into each race will be whatever is given on the race's entry form. In previous years, some of the races insisted that you enter by post, i.e., entry on the day was not allowed.
